S-IR overload thermal relays, in combination with S-ID(X) contactors, are used to monitor power circuits. They are primarily designed to protect electric motors from thermal overloads caused by excessive current draw or the absence of a smooth start.
S-IR series thermal relays consist of a starting and switching module. Protection is provided by bimetallic conductors heated by the current flowing through them.
In case of overheating, they bend and trigger a protective shutdown system, interrupting the control circuit of the contactor and causing it to switch off.
